Artists Alfredo 'Libre' Gutierrez at his studio in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. \n\nThe young artist Alfredo Gutierrez portraits American homeless people who come to Tijuana because life in the street is cheaper here than in neighboring California. Alfredo 'Libre' Gutierrez is well known for his murals in Tijuana and other Mexican cities.\n\nAn image from my long term project 'La Frontera: Artists Along the US Mexican Border" with which I want to examine the cultural and humanitarian activities on both sides of a border that keeps the United States and Mexico apart with a wall of steel already 600 miles long. Illegal immigration and drugs and arms trafficking turned cities like Tijuana into some of the most dangerous places in the world. Despite the violence many artists, photographers, architects, poets, humanitarians, teachers etc live and work on both sides of the border; they are the focus of my project about the region.\n\n© Stefan Falke\n\nThe artist Alfredo Gutierrez with his portrait of an American homeless man in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.\n\n© Stefan Falke\nwww.stefanfalke.com\nLa Frontera: Artists along the US Mexican Border
